Importance of "Gut" Health and How to Take Care of It

Depressed, Tired, Headaches, Cravings, Allergies, Overweight? It could be poor “Gut” Health Here is how to begin fixing it….What is your “Gut”? Better known as your “digestive” system. Your Gut is an autonomic system, designed to be the first line of defense, your immune system starts here as well as the breakdown, digestion and absorption of food and water. It is an interdependent system, which has very specific functions but is connected to the whole of the body. All regulated by your hormones (Pituitary and Pineal glands). So How Do You Keep it Healthy? First, the easiest and most effective way is to drink water. Depending on your size, activity and what you eat, anywhere between 70-120oz per day is a good start. What about coffee, orange juice or whatever else you drink? They don’t count towards your daily overall water consumption. That being said, most humans are chronically dehydrated. This leads to many issues. But think of it in simple terms… your body is made up of a number of “Filters” and if there isn’t enough water to clean them out they get clogged up, causing a myriad of issues. Things like High Blood pressure, kidney stones, headaches, digestive issues, allergies, impaired mood, cravings, etc…The second way to improve and have good digestive health is to include fibrous foods in your meals. Raw vegetables like broccoli, leaf lettuce, carrots, celery. Fruits like apples, pears, strawberries, blueberries. Are all good sources of fiber. Fiber is a binding agent that helps digested food move through your small and large intestines and colon, picking up “trash” along the way, improving absorption of nutrients and improves elimination.  Read more about fiber here One of the biggest issues with weight gain and weight lose is poor gut health, fix your gut, fix your weight problem. There are many tools and options for gut health. Probiotics, Prebiotics, coffee enemas, certain herbs, etc…If you feel like you have a “Gut” issue, start with those two things, give it a go for 30 days and see if anything improves. It should, especially if you don’t do them consistently. I am not a doctor, nor do I pretend to be one, this is not medical advice, it is purely information that has worked for me and many others. If you feel you have serious gastrointestinal issues, please see your primary care Dr..Happy Gut, Happy Life.
